Wrapping Up

I actually lied when I said I was done yesterday, because there was still food to buy and an appetizer and a tart to make.

We went to Trader Joe's this morning because they often seem to have good and reasonably priced options for some types of luxury food, but I was surprised to find that they have a lousy selection of caviar. And they had no goat cheese whatsoever which really was puzzling.

However, I did get seduced by free chocolate and cookies at the end of practically every aisle. And, they were giving samples of their Opera Cake which was mighty tasty. So I salved my depression at not finding caviar and goat cheese by stuffing my face with as much free chocolate as possible. As we all know free chocolate has no calories.

In the end, we left without buying anything but with some free chocolates stuffed in our pockets to take to the nursing home this evening.
We then headed on over to one of our local chain store markets and found what we wanted there. Not expensive caviar, but OK cheap stuff, the goat cheese, cream cheese, some cukes and tomatoes, a lemon and pre-made refrigerated pie crust for the lemon tart.

I know it's a cop out to use the pre-made crust, but it's almost as good as one I can make as I am not known as a master, or is it a mistress, of pie crust anyhow, and I just do nott have time to worry about improving that. The tart is made using a recipe I found in an old Cooking Light which I posted on this page. I may have changed it some from the original, I can't remember anymore, but is quite good and definitely tart.

Then we stopped by the thrift store on the way home. Not much there. But I did find a set of McCoy mugs which look sort of like they were made by a contemporary craftsperson in a nice rough brownish glaze. At 40 cents a piece I couldn't leave them, and they will go nicely with some hand crafted dishes I own.

Finally made it back to the studio to finish wrapping everything. I have a couple things left to tie up, literally, as they just need a ribbon, and then I really will be done with the gifts.

All I'll have left to do is get that tart together. The caviar thing is Chuck's deal.I hope my oven will give me one more baking moment. If it doesn't, then I'll have to find something good tomorrow. Maybe I'll run back to Trader Joe's for the Opera Cake. It was damned good.
