Then we
went back to our friends' place, made pizzas, and just sat around and
talked. It was most enjoyable, but we left before midnight. As we age,
the thrill of watching the year turn loses it's appeal, none of us being
any too anxious to see another year gone by. I'm trying
to look forward to the new year and hoping for a good one, but I'm not
rushing into it. This is
probably the laziest day we've had in a very long time, just sitting around
playing at the computer, reading, and vegging out. I didn't
plan ahead for food today and I did not feel like going out to the grocery
store, so I just foraged through the freezer and the cabinets and came
up with chili based on Bocaburgers, the one can of pinto beans I had on
hand, and a can of tomato sauce, some green peppers and onions and garlic,
cumin and chili powder. I also cooked some brown rice in the rice cooker.
We threw it all in a bowl and topped it with some grated cheese. I've
done better cooking on the fly, but this was OK. With a few modifications
it could be much better. Anyhow, it makes me feel virtuous to cook with
what's on hand sometimes. We also
finished watching, "Harry Potter, Chamber of Secrets."
I confess that I really didn't love it, but I watch it because I am a
grandma and I need to keep up with these things. I do think the whole
Harry Potter thing is great-- for kids. But I'm just one of those boring
adults who has has never been able to get into it. There's is just so
much out there to read and watch and I feel like I have only a limited
amount of time to spend reading and watching, so I prefer to be more choosy
as to what I spend that time on. But today
is a day for just marking time and not doing anything which requires real
thought. And that is very nice for a change. Now I'm
on to either further vegging, or getting serious again and watching the
tape of "Angels in America." May this year bring you exactly what you need to assure your happiness. Happy New Year!
