The
Bath Bomb Project
|

|
Early in the Fall we were browsing in one of those " gifty" bath stores admiring the "smelly" luxury bath products, and thinking about our holiday gift needs. As we looked closer at the products and ingredients, I said, " You know, we could make these and do the packaging and everything. I'm pretty sure I could find instructions on the Internet." So, pretty soon, I was looking here, and then here and gathering the supplies and the next thing you know we were mixing up bath bombs at the studio. It was really pretty easy; we made four batches the first time and we ended up with bath bombs scented with rosemary, bergamot, tangerine and allspice. Then we did it all again and made three batches of unscented ones.
Here's what they looked like when we were done. We made half spheres because we did have a little trouble getting them to stick together. But they were fine, and it was enough for a bath.
Then we added some other items -- a nice soap bar, a candleholder and candle from Pier 1, and a mug with a hot chocolate package, a tea bag, and a candy cane. The candle holders were on sale and all my mugs were thrift store finds, so the cost was minimal.
For my friends, I decided to package the whole thing in some plastic boxes
I had on hand to make a little "Spa-in-a-Box."
Here's my completed package.
It was fun making the bath bombs, even more so because I enjoyed spending the time with my friend. It's much more fun to do this kind of project with another person who is just as into it as you are. I just got a call from one of my friends who just tried the bomb and really liked it, and another friend also reported that it was good. I tried it last week, and I thought it was great, well worth the effort to make. The light oil in the bomb was just enough to act as a moisturizer without being too greasy and without leaving a major oil slick in the tub. So, if any of you have thought about making these, I really recommend that you try it. Easy as pie to do, satisfying because you did it yourself, and it's really a very nice product. I'll bet they are almost as good as the ones from Lush which I have heard everyone praise. ~;~:~:~:~:~:~:~ Now the gift giving is over and the holidays are winding up. Although I've enjoyed attempting to update every day, I am realistic enough to know that I probably won't be able to continue that. For one thing, one of my free lance jobs is calling to me, so I have to begin a task for them. For another, I will need to devote a lot more time to preparing for the workshop I'll be teaching next June. I also have a couple of commissions; and I'd like to make some work for a show in April, if I can manage that, so there will be little idle time left. Still I hope to update on a semi-regular basis here again, but I'd like to try to make a little effort to make my entries a little more interesting than the " what I did today" sort of thing. However rereading what I wrote, no matter how simplistic, was a nice reminder to me of what I did, and as I age, I can use all the reminders I can get. Speaking of reminders, in case anyone who is reading here would like to be informed when I update, I am creating my own notify list, so e-mail me to sign up if you are interested. |
