Pillows and Chairs

The reality of post holiday responsibility raised it's ugly head today as we went back to the regular schedule of packing packages, writing new descriptions, and taking photos for eBay. I decided this past week to start looking for more of certain types of clothing items to list as well. I think that was prompted to do that by my finding another pair of perfectly good Mephisto shoes at the thrift store last week, as well as a next to new Eileen Fisher jacket and couple of brand new Disney character shirts and American Girl jacket. It's worth a try, and it'll help support my habit of buying every pair of thrift shoes in my size that are half way decent. Why do I buy all these shoes anyhow? I don't even go anywhere much more exciting than to the studio most days. If I weren't such a skeptic, I'd almost believe that astrological signs actually do exert some control over behavior. Pisces supposedly governs the feet, or so I've been told, and I definitely have had a serious case of shoe lust all my life. But it's more likely that I am on an endless search to find the exact right pair of shoes. For I have never had happy feet. Pillows and chairs seem to follow me home all the time as well.Maybe in some past life I had to walk a long way with no shoes, had no place to sit down and never had a pillow to rest my head, so I've had to overcompensate in this life. I must have at least 16 bed pillows, and a ton of throw pillows. Far more than enough to meet our needs. But if I see a brand new, or close to new, bed pillow at a garage sale, I'll take it home, wash it up and it will be guaranteed a long relaxing life lounging around on the guest bed, or hiding in the top of a closet until needed to replace the ones I left in the motel. (I always have to have my own pillow when I travel.) And the chair thing? What is that? Never feeling a need to have a dining table with matching chairs, I would often buy chairs in twos whenever I saw a nice pair. Or, sometimes in fours. Once I found four chairs in an antique mall in Ohio which matched two I already had at home. Miracle of miracles! This was my opportunity to actually have a matching set of six! I managed to make room in our van which was already jammed with an art fair display, and hauled those babies home. Let's just say that they almost matched the other chairs. Eventually I acquired so many chairs that people used to make fun of me. My brother even found me a great pair of chair earrings which I love to this day. I think our never having matching chairs must have traumatized my daughter, because when she was looking for a dining room table this fall, and I was trying to steer her toward the garage sale route, and I also offered to give her some of my vast collection of chairs, she loudly protested that she was not going to have anything which did not match. When we had a house I could hide the strays and extras in the basement, but now there is just not enough space in our apartment. So I've had to curb my enthusiasm. But I can still seat 18 unmatching people in 18 unmatching chairs and I can offer at least 16 of them pillows. And if their shoe size happens to be anywhere from a ladies 7 1/2 to an 8 1/2 I can shoe them all.
